The Kyjov Moravian Ensemble is made up of a diverse mosaic of people who keep and develop the rich traditions of the Kyjov Dolňácko region. From the dance group, through the male and female choirs to the cimbalom bands with which we cooperate – each of these parts has its own irreplaceable role and together they create a whole that has represented Kyjov at home and abroad for over eight decades. Just like our ancestors when the group was founded in 1942, today’s members also build on the values of cohesion, joy and pride in their own roots.
The dance group and prep group are the centerpiece of movement, energy and young blood in the ensemble. Despite generational changes, Covid breaks and natural departures, the dance group remains a place where new talent is born and where traditions are learned “on their own”. At its rehearsals and performances, the skill of older generations is naturally combined with the enthusiasm of younger ones. It is not just about steps and figures – it is a way of life that is passed down through the years and stories. They are also joined by the Pajtáši – a group of former dancers who want to keep dancing even after years and bring perspective, humor and well-matured skill to the ensemble.
The male and female choirs form the voice and sound of the entire ensemble. Their performance of songs, often supported by personalities with decades of experience, is a bridge between the past and the present. The choir members and, if necessary, musicians accompany not only stage performances, but also authentic traditional events – Hody-time festivals, carnivals, harvest festivals or the erecting of a maypole. It is in the field, among people, that the true strength and solidarity of the Kyjov Moravian Ensemble is most evident: we are a family.
